﷽
All praises are due to ALLĀH ﷻ, The Sustainer, Nourisher and Cherisher of the Universe. Peace, Blessings and Salutations be upon our beloved master and leader Ḥaḍhrat Muḥammed Muṣtafā ﷺ -
We live in such times where every person is looking for instant results and outcome for almost every single thing, we cannot wait, nor be patient to achieve a certain goal in life. Talk of using shortcuts and the fastest ways to culminate our daily tasks, technology and modern mode of transport do it all! Not forgetting our diet where almost everything is instant, save being unhealthy!
Similarly, when it comes to the matters of the hereafter, the blessed Aḥādīth of Rasūlullāh ﷺ also teach us some of the easiest ways of gaining Jannah which is the ultimate destination of the successful lot. Rasūlullāh ﷺ gives guarantee of Jannah to those who practice and give guarantee to Rasūlullāh ﷺ in regard to these priceless advices. Are we ready to give guarantee and make Rasūlullāh ﷺ our guarantor and patron for entry to Jannah?
The following are some qualities for which Rasūlullāh ﷺ has announced to be a patron for entry to Jannah for those who bring them to practice and in turn give guarantee to Rasūlullāh ﷺ to act upon these advices. It is narrated in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān (#271) under the authority of Sayyidunā ʿUbādah Bin Ṣāmit ﵁ that Rasūlullāh ﷺ said: “Whoever gives me guarantee for the following six qualities, I will stand as a guarantee for that person’s entry to Jannah”.
One: The first quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Be truthful in your speech”. Unfortunately, today the liar is our closest friend and the one who is truthful is a foe. Evil and corruption have become so rampant that good is regarded bad and bad is regarded good. In fact, ALLĀH ﷻ has mentioned the salient quality of the pious servants as those who are truthful, hence, piety cannot be achieved without this quality. In another Ḥadīth, Rasūlullāh ﷺ said: “Indeed, the truth brings tranquility while falsehood sows doubt”. (Tirmizhi #2518)
Two: The second quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Fulfil your promises when you make them”. This quality is very special for the true believer, naturally a person who is truthful in his speech will value his word and fulfill the promise he makes. This is a salient quality of a true believer, one bereft of this quality is at the danger end, considering the Ḥadīth wherein Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentions one of the qualities of a hypocrite is not to fulfill a promise when he makes it. (Bukhārī #2682)
Three: The third quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Fulfill the trust when you are entrusted”. This also is another salient quality of a true believer, we are entrusted with our time, bodies, health and wealth from ALLĀH ﷻ, how many orders of ALLĀH ﷻ in regards to these assets are we mindful about and how do we utilize them? Remember, not only the wealth of a second or third person is regarded as trust, rather the vast meaning includes every bounty of ALLĀH ﷻ upon us and must be utilized correctly.
Four: The fourth quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Guard your chastity”. This quality as well as the first one mentioned above, are of such great importance that not only have these qualities been mentioned amongst these six, rather, Rasūlullāh ﷺ has mentioned them separately in another Ḥadīth: “Whoever can guarantee for my sake (my obedience) the chastity of what is in between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his tongue and his private parts) I guarantee Jannah for him. (Bukhārī #6474) Chastity of the tongue refers to ensuring to save oneself from lies, backbiting and slander etc. Notwithstanding this important advice, unfortunately, many of us are negligent in this regard! The core of it all lies in modesty which unfortunately has been buried, nay, consigned to oblivion.
Five: The fifth quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Lower your gazes”. This is the first step to protect and guard one’s chastity. When a person keeps control of his gaze and saves himself from casting an evil glance, he safeguards his chastity. Rasūlullāh ﷺ said: “Indeed, the evil glance is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblīs, whosoever leaves the evil glance out of the fear of ALLĀH ﷻ, ALLĀH ﷻ will grant him/her the sweetness of Imān. (Mustadrak Ḥākim #7875)
Six: The sixth quality Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned is; “Restrain your hands from harming others”. A believer ought to be one who is useful and most benefitting to the people. If one cannot assist or do good to/for someone, the least that can be done is restraining oneself from harming others, be it harming by virtue of one’s hands or hurting the feelings of others. In one Ḥadīth Rasūlullāh ﷺ mentioned with regards to restraining oneself from harming others that it is regarded a charitable deed for your own good. (Bukhārī #2518)
Lastly, one should try his utmost best not to ask for any favors from anybody no matter how small or big it is, we must turn solely to ALLĀH ﷻ. It appears under the authority of Sayyidunā Thawbān ﵁ that Rasūlullāh ﷺ once said: “Who will commit himself to one thing, I will guarantee him Jannah?” Sayyidunā Thawbān ﵁ said: “I will”. Rasūlullāh ﷺ said: “Do not ask people for anything”. It is mentioned that when the whip/staff of Sayyidunā Thawbān ﵁ would fall while he was on his conveyance, he would not say to anyone; “Get that for me”, rather, he would dismount and grab it himself. (Ibn Mājah #1837)
